1. New Form Factor, Look and Feel
The DJI Phantom 4 design is very similar to the DJI Phantom 3 in terms of the form factor. The body is now glossy and aerodynamically improved. It is still available only in white. If only it was also available in Matt or Jet Black.
That would definitely give it a very aggressive look. I guess DJI wants to showcase the DJI Phantom 3 as a classy and sporty product.
The weight of this new quadcopter with camera is approximately 100 g heavier than the DJI Phantom 3. According to Paul Pan, the Product Manager of DJI, “This is the Porsche of drones“.
It now comes with a 3-axis gimbal with 2 motors controlling the control pitch. The DJI Phantom 4’s camera still uses the same Sony sensor as the camera on the DJI Phantom 3 Professional. But the glass lens have been improved for sharper imaging and have the ability to capture more accurate colors.
The integrated gimbal is also redesigned to take out vibration during flight and this allow the camera to shoot smooth and steady footage even during complicated maneuvers.
The DJI Phantom 4 has been equipped with 2 front camera and bottom camera that acts as “eyes” to give it an active obstacle avoidance capabilities called Sense and Avoid. The DJI Phantom 4 is intelligent enough to react and avoid any obstacles in its path.
2. An intelligent quadcopter with camera that can follow you
With its on-board processor and computing power, the DJI Phantom 4 can now follow you at the tap of a screen. This new feature is called Fly with Tap and there is also a new tracking automatic feature called Active Track.
Fly with Tap
3. It’s a Fast Quadcopter with Camera
At a toggle of the switch on the controller, the DJI Phantom 4 kicks into Sports Mode. This turn the DJI Phantom 4 into a racing quadcopter by increasing it’s usual speed of approximately 35 mph to 44.7 mph. The DJI Phantom 4 is able to achieve this speed by tilting itself to a 45 degree angle.
So Should You Buy the DJI Phantom 4?
The DJI Phantom 4 is priced at $1399 and is available for pre-order from DJI.com. So should you get one? The DJI Phantom 4 is highly priced compared to the DJI Phantom 3 Professional. However with the addition of so many new features and technology. It is well worth the price.
